Meniscus Surgery Friday?!

Question:

Meniscus Surgery Friday?

I should have done this earlier but I’m starting to get a little paranoid. I’m having knee surgery Friday – arthroscopic to repair a meniscus tear. The doctor said I’d be able to walk the same day and he’d be giving me exercises to do. I am not foolish enough to think I’ll be 100% same day or even in a few days. I expect to HURT. What I am wondering is what to really expect. How well will I be able to walk that day? How long until I can do things properly again? I almost feel like I’m not getting a strait answer because I don’t think he feels I should be very active due to other conditions. But I want to be able to walk and ride a bike again without screaming.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answers:

I had the same surgery and yes! you do walk the same day. Actually as soon as I was home I was able to walk around the house just fine (just not up and down stairs) and went back to work 2 days later.

Your knee area will be quite swollen, so it's hard going up and down stairs and roll over in your sleep, but you can shower the same day.

Don't expect to ride your bike for at least 3-4 week --more like 4 weeks, but you should be able to do almost everything else in 2-3 days.
