What is settling in a brand new built house...?!

Question:

What is settling in a brand new built house...?

My mum bought a brand new built house 2 or 3 yrs ago. At the moment we live in it and apparentley its settling.
What is settling and should i be worried?

Answers:

settling is when everything is drying out and your home would be subject to hairline cracks in the plaster, skirting boards coming away from the walls etc etc. in our new house the doors would not shut properly once everything had settled and the staircase came away from the wall. poor workmanship is too blame for some things that happen but small cracks and creaking noises are caused by settling. any more than that is bad workmanship and you need to claim under the NHBC guarantee that came with the new house.
