I have extremelly bad insomnia?
I'm 14 and have extremelly bad insomnia. I can't fall asleep until 2 or 3 am and wake up around 8 or 9 and still tired, but unable to go back to sleep. I have tried cutting down on caffiene, not drinking soft drinks after noon, cutting down on sugar, and doing something calming before I go to sleep. I have tried counting backwards when I go to sleep, but nothing seems to work. It's starting to affect my life, especially when I spend the night at a friend's house. I get cranky and snap at everyone for everything all the time. Does anyone have any ideas of other things I could try?

My mom refuses to take me to my doctor about it because she thinks it's just a "phase", though it's been happening for about a year now.

Talk to your doctor. There are new sleep aids on the market that are not addictive, like Rozerem, or something like that. I occasionally use Advil PM, but that also has a pain reliever, and wouldn't be appropriate if you don't have pain.
