How long does the pain last when you break your wrist? Also, is this normal?!

Question: How long does the pain last when you break your wrist? Also, is this normal?
I broke my wrist almost 2 wks ago. I had surgery.. yesterday I recovered from the surgery and went to see my surgeon to have the stitches removed and a cast put on.. As soon as he took the wrapping off.. my wrist immediately started hurting.. the same pain as when it happened. All night and today I have been in pain and have taken my meds. Once again, I can't move my fingers well. Before I went to get the cast I was moving my arm and fingers effortlessly.. Now I can not.. is this ok? Will it pass? I can't call my doc and ask because they won't tell me over the phone and I can't afford to go in.. this whole thing is already costing a load of money. So, I'm hoping for advice from someone who's been through this or pro.. just simple yes or no to whether it's normal or not. Thank you to anybody that can help.

Part of your post operative instructions should have been something along the lines of "if you notice any swelling or any increase in pain or inability to move your fingers, call us immediately". Sometimes after a trauma or after surgery there is some swelling and it is hard to predict if the cast is on too tight as they may be swelling the next day, etc. as a result of the surgery and of the inflammatory response. You should not feel like you can't call or go see your doctor about this and I recommend you do contact them immediately. If your surgeon will not respond quickly to this type of concern on your part and if their fee for service charges you if you go into the office because you have a great concern about their service then you need to get a new doctor. Don't worry about the inconvenience or the money for an office visit, your hand and wrist is much more important. FYI, I also suspect you may need some physical therapy after you recover from the surgery and cast removal....please inquire with your surgeon about this as well. So many medical mistakes are due to a lack of communication. You are the customer...ask questions of your doctor, it is OK. Good luck.
