Help me get to sleep!?

I have not slept much at all in the past 3 nights/days. For some reason I feel exhausted, but I cannot seem to get to sleep. I toss and turn and even though I really feel tired, I can't seem to get some sleep. I have tried taking over the counter sleep aids, but they do not put me to sleep. I want to try to fall asleep soon but I have a feeling that I won't be able to once more. I need some advice on how to get to sleep!

I feel your pain... after having insomnia for the past 4 years, I've had some experience with sleepless nights. Your best bet would be going to the doctor & getting a prescription sleep aid (like ambien, trust me, it works). If it's sudden onset, then your doctor might check you for an underlying medical condition. Obviously, that's not an option for tonight, though. By this point, it's probably a mental thing - if you think you won't be able to sleep, then you won't. Try a warm bath, lavendar soap if you have any. Read a boring book (I read my text books in college, they helped). Drink a warm glass of milk, or a glass of wine (if you're 21, I'm not advocating underage drinking). My doctor also advocates meditation. But when you're laying in bed tonight, let your mind drift to other things, & try not to concentrate on not sleeping. Also, turn your clock away from you so you won't be able to see what time it is. Good luck.
