i am on prozac now for at least 18 mths im on 60mg per day if i asked my doctor could i go down to 40mg per day and if 40mg was to effect me how long would it take before i feel effected

Only your doctor can tell you this, or if you should cut down in most cases cutting down the medication or weaning of the medication you may not feel any effects at all for about 4 weeks
If you are going to stay on the medications you may feel no effects at all for a while or maybe none at all because you will still be taking the medication - you may not feel as tired after while.
A friend of mine weaned herself off the medication as was the recommendation, it was about 4 weeks after she was completely off the medication that she felt any effects at all - like she wasnt as tired and sleepy.
The best thing to do is talk to your doctor and find out what is recommended your doctor may wean you off the drug by lowering your dosage to see how you will cope with out the drug.
