I have a strained deltoid muscle; how can I treat it over the counter and/or via!

Question:

I have a strained deltoid muscle; how can I treat it over the counter and/or via professional help?

Do I need to consider physical therapy? A chiropractor? I do stretches and apply BioFreeze but when I lift weights over my shoulder, it hurts (actually lifting anything over my shoulder. Any help would be great - thanks!

Answers:

How do you know that it is a strained deltoid? Have you been examined by a healthcare professional? Most strains will heal on there own within a couple days. Pain in the deltoid area is very common referral pattern for those with rotator cuff strains/impingement and tears. A physical therapist could help differentiate if this is a possibility. If it has been more than a few days of rest and the pain is still there, I would seek out a referral to physical therapy before more damage is done.
