Constant Jaw Pain?!

Question:

Constant Jaw Pain?

For about 2 weeks now I've been experiencing somewhat sever jaw pain. It only occurs on the right side at the joint. There is no popping but it hurts when I open or adjust my jaw in any way. At first I thought maybe I was grinding my teeth, but the pain seems to be most severe right before bed. Tylenol will dull it enough to sleep, but it still hurts nearly constantly. Anyone have any ideas of what could be causing it?

Answers:

The pain is more severe before bed because you are tired as are the muscles. It could still be from teeth grinding or clenching. Very few dentists can properly treat TMJ. You may want to go directly to a specialist and save the time of seeing a dentist who will mostly likely do nothing for you except make a night guard to prevent grinding and clenching. You can find a TMJ specialist at the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain - the link is below. Specialist are trained in all possible causes, not just teeth grinding.
