Spiral Fracture?!

Question:

Spiral Fracture?

I have fractured my tib and fib, one just below the knee, the other just at the botom of my leg. i have been in a full plaster cast for 7 weeks, does anyone know how long it takes to mend, and when will i go to a below knee cast. I have not had any operation on it. any help on how not to go mad while it mends.

Answers:

Usually after 3 - 5 weeks you will have your cast changed for a short cast. Because you have fractured your leg in two places you may have to double this time.

It can take anything up to 6 months to heal, especially if the spiral fracture is an acute one, ie the bones were twisted in a very severe way. You may also experience shortening of the bone, up to 1 -2 inches.

Do as your doctor tells you, dont try and rush things as this will, in the end prolong your recovery.

Get one of your mum's knitting needles for when you have an itch down there and good luck!!
