Need help surviving a cast!?!

Question:

Need help surviving a cast!?

I have never broken a bone before and I hate this cast (left hand). I am fighting the impulse to cut it off right now and it's been less than a day! How do people cope for 6 weeks? It doesn't help that I have a bit of a phobia about being tied down. (Can't even stand to wear tight clothes.) I am trying hard to calm myself down mentally, in the meantime has anyone got tips on how to make this easier physically? I have already found out that I can file down the edges of the cast with a finger nail file so I got rid of the rough edges rubing against my fingers. Also those plastic wire ties are great for reaching inside to scratch itches. I'm thinking of getting some of that "canned air" to shoot inside the cast now and then to keep it dry inside? What can I expect when this thing comes off? Will I be able to use my wrist? What will my skin look like? Any one have any other ideas on how to survive a broken bone, or more specificly, the cast?

Answers:

When it comes off, your arm will probably be itchy. You will be able to use your wrist if the whole thing was done correctly. One of the best ways to survive this situation would be to just keep your mind off of it. I have a similar situation with certain feelings on my skin and it drives me absolutely CRAZY. It seems bad now, but you'll forget it's there after a while and if you're like me you might even continue holding your arm in the position it's stuck in for a couple weeks as a force of habit after it's off. Good Luck with everything I hope all goes well. Feel Better.
