What type of illness would be associated with throat and gum pains on one side o!

Question:

What type of illness would be associated with throat and gum pains on one side of the head?

I recently stopped smoking (2 days ago) and my throat on the left side is inflamed. The pain is going up from my left tonsil area up into a part of my gum where my wisdom tooth was removed. Sometimes when I swallow it makes a clicking sound and feels uncomfortable. Anyone familiar with this?

Answers:

You may be having some withdrawal symptoms from the smoking, which you should do your best to tough out.

But you may also be experiencing some unrelated things like a mild cold or allergies. There are glands that feel like they go from your throat past your back teeth to your ears, and if these get inflamed you may experience pain.

My bet is that your body is adjusting to your quitting smoking. Hang in there- it's worth it!

The clicking sound in your jaw sounds like TMJ, which requires some treatment from your dentist if it really bothers you.
