How do I know if I should go to the ER for my neck?!

Question: How do I know if I should go to the ER for my neck?
I went skiing four days ago, hit a chunk of snow, flipped over, and hit my head on the ground. My head hurt for a bit afterwards and was fine, but my neck is sore when I move it too much. How serious is it? Should I just wait a few days to go to my doctor?

Answers:

You probably have an injury similar to a whip lash. If you have been walking around for 4 days then it isn't broken and therefore not an emergency. If it hurts really bad you could consider visiting an urgent care center tomorrow, which will keep you from taking up room in an ER which should be for medical emergency, and it will cost you much less. I do think it is a good idea to get it checked out but it doesn't sound like an emergency.

Go to your doctor as soon as possible. Dont wait. It's better to get checked out now than to wait and it gets worse.
