Question:
What is a left foot navicular avulsion fracture?
I went to the hospital with what I thought was a bad sprain and was told it was a left foot navicular avulsion fracture but dr told me it would get better in 3 days...3 days?I was in so much pain I almost passed out from it and even sprains take a couple weeks to heal but its supposedly going to heal within 3 days?Does anyone know why?
Answers:
It is one of the more common locations of stress fractures in the foot and ankle. These fractures are usually due to the repetitive trauma of running, and people will typically describe chronic activity-related pain directed in that area. They usually heal well with a flat-bottom shoe that they provide for you and weight bearing as tolerated. Severe fractures through navicular bone sometimes require surgery, as for 3 days to heal? it may be a pretty weak fracture, but it usually takes a few weeks or so. just take it easy for the next couple days and see how it is the third day, if you have problems consult the doctor
