Can stress agitate an ulcer?!

Question:

Can stress agitate an ulcer?

Can fear, stress, and even excitement agitate an ulcer? I think I may have an ulcer, and if I'm the slightest bit nervous, even the slightest bit startled (Ex: playing violent and suspensful video games.) I get this burning sensation in my stomach... Can an ulcer do that?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Answers:

Actually most peptic ulcers are caused by stress and anxiety. I have had an ulcer and I have one now. I have anxiety and stress problems and this causes the stomach to produce extra acid that is not needed. This acid eats through the mucus lining in your stomach causing a "hole" or ulcer. If you are experiencing nausea, frequent acidic and sometimes painful burps, gain or loss of appetite and pain in the stomach, it is highly likely you have an ulcer. You need to see your Doctor as this can become a serious problem, and will not go away on its own. You will probably be prescribed Pregnizone. Until than, take antacids such as Tums and Peptobismal to try and lower the acid in your stomach. Yogurt and dairy products also help. Keefer, an organic soy milk is a life saver for ulcers. Good luck and I hope everything works out!
