I have slipped disc, what kind of sports/activity should I be avoiding?!

I have slipped disc, what kind of sports/activity should I be avoiding?

I used to do competitive running but since I suffered from slipped disc for the past 9years, I've stopped running completely. Any suggestions of what else that I can do without harming my back?


Answers:

The only thing I would recommend you avoid is bike riding b/c the seated position places the most stress on the disc. Other than that feel free to do whatever...just make sure that if you find an activity that causes pain during or after doing it then avoid that in the future and slowly increase that amount of activity you do b/c is seems like you have been sedentary lately. If you work out in a gym then make sure you dont do anything with weights in a position where your back is not supported.
