I have a twitching feeling in my chest, what is it?!

Question:

I have a twitching feeling in my chest, what is it?

I had this feeling a few months ago and it went away and now it's back. I've had it for about a month now. It feels like my heart is twitching. It doesn't hurt, it's just uncomfortable. I don't feel it too much during the day, only sometimes. But I do feel it more at night, especially when I lay down for bed. What is this? and should I be worried?

Answers:

As with anything that has to do with the chest, I'm supposed to say "IT COULD BE A HEART ATTACK!!"

But I'm not going to. What I think it is is you finally relaxing at night. If you have a stressful job, or one in which you do a repetitive motion, your muscles are tense all day. So when you relax at night, the muscles in your chest relax - making it feel like your heart is twitching. The muscles in your chest are naturally pretty strong, so you might not notice when they're tensed until you lay down in bed.

Just to be on the safe side though, I'd go to your doctor and explain what's going on. And if they're ever accompanied by profuse sweating, your right arm being numb, blurred vision, tighness in your chest, or any of the other symptoms of a heart attack, go the nearest ER immediately. Call 911 or have somebody drive you.
