Question:

My blood is thin b/c of medication i'm on, what can i do to thicken it w/o using other drugs?

I'm not on a blood thinner, i'm on an acne medicine that causes thin blood / longer bleeding / nose bleeds [with alot more blood flow than usual]. I'm just hoping to thicken my blood a little so my nose bleeds and other injuries can clot more quickly.

Answers:

First off, I am not entirely certain what you mean by "thin blood" Traditionally people use this term when taking aspirin or coumadin or plavix, then your blood will coagulate differently than if you were not taking the medication. Hence, there really is no such thing as "thin blood." The viscosity (relative thickness or thinness) of blood is identical to that of someone who is not taking the medication.

Having said all of that, if you are on medication to reduce its coagulation characteristics, then why in the world would you do something to reverse it? Discuss this matter with your doctor.

If you are referring to thin blood as a euphenism for something else. like anemia, then eat more foods that
contain iron.

Addendum: Antibiotics like doxycycline can have an effect on platelet counts which would account for excessive bleeding. This is a rare side effect but known. You should discuss this with your physician as this is an important side effect and more than likely the risk of continuing to take the medication outweighs the benefits of clearing acne. There are other agents to address acne. Discuss this with your medical provider.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
