What is the lump on my leg?!

Question:

What is the lump on my leg?

Several weeks ago, I fell down and got a cut on my shin area... about 3 inches or so below my knee. The bone was also pretty bruised. Now, there is a sort of lump where I fell and it still hurts a little. Any idea about what this is? Thanks.

The bump is hard....like its an actual lump or something I don't know

Answers:

I had something similiar earlier this year. I was flying out of the kitchen carelessly and banged my arm extremely hard against the doorframe. It went through the stages you describe. After about three weeks I even emailed my doctor because I thought the sore bump might something terrible. He said it was a harmless contusion.

Here is what I just found:

Soft Tissue Injuries

Soft tissue injuries include bumps and bruises (contusions) and small tears of muscles (minor strains) or of ligaments and tendons near joints (minor sprains).

Contusions, mild strains, and mild sprains produce mild to moderate pain and swelling. The swelling can become discolored, turning purple after a day and becoming yellow or brown days later. The person usually can continue using the body part. People with more severe symptoms, such as pain, deformity, or an inability to walk or use an injured part may have a mild strain or sprain. However, they may also have a complete separation of bones that were attached within a joint (dislocation), partial separation of bones that were attached within a joint (subluxation), fracture (see Types of Fractures ), or other severe injury. People with severe symptoms usually need professional medical care to determine the nature of the injury.
