Showering- Hot or Cold?!

Question:

Showering- Hot or Cold?

I've always taken really hot showers, and they seem to relax me a lot. Recently I've been using cooler water...not exactly cold but maybe room temperature and this seems to make me feel more alert. Have there been any studies into the benefits or consequences showering at different temperatures? How do you prefer to bathe?

Answers:

Very hot water is actually drying to your skin.
I have always taken showers in slightly more than lukewarm water--"tepid" is the word I'd use.
They do wake me up better, and don't steam up the bathroom so bad.

Incidentally, cold showers aren't good either--your body reacts to the cold by warming itself, so if you were trying to cool yourself off, you'd be doing the exact opposite!
