Medial malleolous fracture from wearing stiletto heels?!

Question:

Medial malleolous fracture from wearing stiletto heels?

My inner ankle bone is very tender and swollen. I am not very athetic so this is not from a sports injury. The pain started after a long day and night running around on my three inch stiletto heels. I am a 30 year old woman, 5'7" weighing 113 pounds. Can you get a stress fracture from this. I am a little concerned about possible osteoporosis because it seems odd that I would have this injury for little reason. Is this possible?

Oh, actually the night with the heels was three weeks ago. The pain and swelling was bad that night, died down and resurfaced with a vengance a week ago.

Answers:

Stilettos are terrible for your feet, back, ankles, etc...but darn they look good on a woman. I would stay out of the high heels for a while and see if the pain gets better, if not sounds like it is time to visit the old Doc for some x-rays. You may very well have a small stress fracture, I would doubt it though. Being 5'7" and only weighing 113 pounds it is not like you are putting a whole lot of stress on your bones even in high heels. Come to think of it, if you are 5'7" and weigh only 113 pounds you don't need the stilettos to attract anyone...at least not me. You sound like a fit, intelligent lady (medial malleolous fracture???), give up the pain.
