What is a good way to explain tourettes?!

Question: What is a good way to explain tourettes?
I have tourettesand not sure how to explain it to my friend

Answers:

Its an itch you have to scratch. is a perfect phrase to use. because like most of us with TS know. its something you HAVE to do. yes you can try and hold it back.... but it only tends to make the tics worse. at least for me. so all in all. you doing what ever motor or phonic activity it may be in your case....is like being able to finally scratch that itch.

I do not have tourettes, and have never met someone with tourettes, but I am guessing the best way to explain it would be to say that you have tourettes, and then tell him about the way it works. Make sure he knows that not everyone that has tourette's randomly yells bleep bleeps.

Tourette syndrome is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by multiple physical (motor) tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic; these tics characteristically wax and wane.
