Answers:

If the problem got worse after your fillings then your dentist didn't check for high spots after he filled - when you close your mouth there's extra pressure from a high spot - the tm joint doesn't relax. Since it's been happening for a long time there are several issues that can cause the tm joint to not relax properly (which causes the popping/aching). Clenching/grinding while you sleep, mal-occlusion which can be adjusted (basically your dentist will check how each upper tooth meets each lower tooth and if there are high spots/pressure points he will shave them down so they meet properly, tense muscles/spasms in the neck - they can pull on the jaw, over/under bite which braces can correct..... Immediate pain relief is to massage the jaw muscles, apply moist heat to help the spasming of the muscles and take advil. However, you must also get this fixed or the pain will never go away. My right jaw "drags" and pops out of place - my chiropractor adjusts this for me occasionally so you can consider trying a chiropractor for the adjustment but you'll still need to have your bite evaluated. If your dentist does not have an special training with tmj issues visit the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain to find a specialist in your area. Link is below. Good luck.
