Infected scrape?!

Question:

Infected scrape?

Two days ago, I tripped over a curb and scraped up my knee. I have a little scrape on my toe and ankle which have no scabbed over. There's a little patch on my knee that has also scabbed and doesn't affect me at all...but there's this bigger patch that hasn't scabbed yet. Today, I found that pus was coming out. I'm not sure if it's a bad thing. I sat down at my computer earlier for about 10-15 minutes before I felt something run down my leg. I looked at my knee and it was pus running down my leg. I'm sorry for describing it. The area around the bigger scrape is red and extremely sensitive. I think it's starting to heal as the edges are beginning to scab and the skin around is starting to pucker up, but I'm concerned that it may be infected. I wasn't at home when I scraped my knee, so I had to quickly clean the blood and put a bandaid on. I didn't immediately clean out dirt and rocks; I waited until I got home which was about 45 minutes later. Is it infected? Should I be worried?

Answers:

It sounds to me you may have an infection. I fell recently and injured my knee, I keep it clean and apply neosporin that includes a pain reliever with it. If you apply bandaides and you remove it. the wound seems worse. DO NOT apply alcohol. It will burn and the pain will be worse. You could clean it with peroxide. I would also be sure that you use a non-stick bandage. If it contines, I would suggest that you call or go in to see your doctor. He might prescribe an antibiotic. It may sound trivial but I think that your doctor will give you the corrections of how to care for your injury. Take care.
