Anyone know the best way to sort out long term insomnia without medication??!

Question:

Anyone know the best way to sort out long term insomnia without medication??

I have been an insomniac for nearly 8 years, my logest stint awake to date was 3 weeks with the whole of 2 hours of sleep dispersed throughout.. I just can't fall asleep untill around 5-6am and even then i'm usualy awake by 8am, I have a 2 year old who runs me ragged so when I fall asleep its a very restless sleep of thinking about the day to come, with him being so young, i don't want to take the doctors advice and use sleeping pills or valium, it's bad enough taking 4 different pain killers for torn cartiledge in my knee, i dont want him seeing me as a pill head as he grows up. I've tried several natural herbal remedies like Valerina, which worked for the first 3-7 days, then just stopped having any affect....can SOMEONE please help me?!?!?

I can't put this down to stress as my knee injury is only 1 year old, and my son is only 2 yet i've had insomnia for 8, I always lie down in bed around 11pm and read, but around 2am i get fed up and decide to come on the PC instead of keeping my wife awake from tossing and turning. I don't drink caffine except the odd drink of coke, no coffee or tea, i eat at set times, I just cant seem to switch off.

Answers:

Try therapeutic massage once a week. It works out all of the stress in muscles you didn't even know you have. It will also help with the chronic pain in your knee. Just make sure you let the therapist know about your injury so they don't over manipulate it. I have suffered from insomnia all my like. Massage was the only thing that worked. It would be nice to have 1 hour a week to yourself. I can relate. It will get better . Good Luck to you.
