Physical therapy for broken bones?!
Question:
Physical therapy for broken bones?
If you break your arm or leg, do you have to have P.T. like you would if you ruptured a tendon or had knee surgery? I guess what I'm asking is, do bones require P.T. like ligaments, muscles, and tendons etc? I would think you wouldn't.
Answers:
In most cases, yes. This is because the period of immobilization usually results in weakness and limited mobility which can affect your ability to use the affected extremity. Physical therapy is concerned with the restoration of function...since a fracture usually results in one having difficulty using the affected extremity, PT is usually indicated after the bone has healed.
