Scoliosis back pain, painful sore spot, nothing helps, can't take it!?!

Question:

Scoliosis back pain, painful sore spot, nothing helps, can't take it!?

I am 30 years old and have mild scoliosis. I have never been in an accident, which most people assume. I have had pain in the upper right side of my back (between spine and shoulder blade there is a severely painful spot) and sometimes radiates to the right side of my neck for years. The painful area seems to coincide with where my spine curves out as seen on my xrays. Nothing has helped to treat this pain... massage, chiropractics, physical therapy, anti inflammatory drugs, strong pain meds, cortisone injections. I feel like I am going crazy sometimes from the pain. Most doctors only want to talk about lower back pain, but my lower back is fine. It's just this one spot in my upper back about the size of a baseball. What could this be!!?? How can I possibly treat it? I want to rip the muscle out somtimes.

No, I don't smoke or have any other medical issues. PT didn't help at all before, but I might consider looking into it again. I just feel like I can do alot more at the gym by myself than a therapist can do for me. Making me lift 2 lb weights or use stretchy bands isn't going to help.

Answers:

It sounds that most likely it is due to that spinal curvature. Try chiropractic again, but look into someone who specializes in scoliosis treatment, specifically the Logan Basic method. I will forewarn you though, it is a light force technique that includes a very personal method of correction that the doctor will fully explain to you. Essentially Logan Basic is an entire system of biomechanics that focuses on balancing your muscles from the ground up to work out the area of problem. You may have a problem with a short leg that is the cause of this, or it may start with your pelvis, or higher somewhere in your spinal column, or it may be that area alone, it is very difficult to say without actually examining you. There are other methods of chiropractic that work well for scoliosis also, but I can't particularly recommend any others because I am not familiar with those methods. I am currently a student learning the Logan Basic method, and there have been countless people with scoliosis who have seen everyone possible, including other chiropractors who do not use Logan Basic, but have success with this method of adjusting. This combined with theraputic modalities such as electrical stimulation and exercises will hopefully help you fix or control this problem. Good luck
