How to have a normal sleep?!

Question:

How to have a normal sleep?

As a child a was not rhythmical, I tended to sleep at days and always found it hard to fall asleep at nights. Now I am 22 and still have the same problem. It is impossible to be energetic during work days when I have to leave my home early as I have to make it without sleep at all. Only at the break can I fall asleep but then my whole day is spoilled because I get up in the afternoon. I tried various pills but kicked using them as they were ruining my health. Does anyone knows is this an inborn to be a night owl and is there any ways to manage without pills?
I know that it is not an insomnia because at days I sleep perfectly well

Answers:

I too am nocturnal. It was so bad that when I was in my early twenties, I had to check into a sleep institute.

It could have a lot to do with the amount of sunlight you're getting. Try getting some more sun during the day. When you take a break at work--go outside. Even better to go on a walk or something that gets your heart going. Your melatonin levels are sometimes controlled by how much sunlight (not artificial light) that you get.

Low melatonin levels can also lead to episodes of sleep paralysis. It's not life threatening or anything, but can be pretty intense.

Hopefully you can get it under control. Society has absolutely no understanding or compassion for sleeping disorders. We're not lazy--we're just tired in the daytime.
