Question:

I fell forward on a step two weeks ago and still have a tender bump on my shin. Do I need to see a doctor?

I don't have health insurance right now and I don't want to pay a fortune if the bump is just going to go away. It's painful when I touch it but not excruciating. The bump is hard and is located halfway between my knee and my ankle.

Answers:

You shinned yourself. It is not serious. It will go away by itself without intervention. There is no need to see a medical provider. If it looks like a bruise then a warm compress will help it dissipate. If it is just a bump, then that equals swelling which will respond to ice.
