Need help with my back and if I should have surgery?

I have two herniated (Slipped) disks in my neck, I have had this injury for 5 years now, my neurosurgen keeps telling me to have surgery and have the disks removed and replaced with artificial. Ive talked to a few people about the surgery and the people ive talked to that have had it say not to because they did and where worse off after having it. Ive been in gut wrenching pain for 5 years now and on pain meds as well, im sick of the meds and sick of the pain, what should i do? have the surgery or not, the thing that worries me the most is that they will have to go through my throat to replace the disks and ive heard nothing but horror stories about the surgery. Any websites that I can get information from?, any advice?, any help would be much appreciated.

Hello, My brother has degenerative disk disease and he had to have that same surgery where they replace the disks w/ titanium, and to be honest the poor guy has had nothing but problems and as of right now he cannot use his left arm it is completely dead it hurts him really bad and he has alot of numbing and pins and needles type of thing going on in his hand and he cant even pick up a pencil its sad, so if I were you I would really think hard on deciding to have the surgery or not because most often it makes it worse, I have had 2 shoulder surgeries and I am worse off than I was before and I regret it everyday and I have to live with this severe pain for the rest of my life. So please do your homework and make an educated decision and a decision based on the theory of you being in more pain than you are now for the rest of your life. The surgeons just want your money they dont care if they f**k you up for life. Can you deal with that kind of pain?? I wish you the very best good luck sweetie!!!
