What do doctors do for a bunion?

Or a better question is, what does an HMO do for a bunion?

How long does it take? How long before I can walk on it?

Answers:

It depends on how severe they are - based on your question of recovery time I'm guessing your asking about surgery. My mother had both feet done 2 weeks apart. The foot surgeon cut a triangular shaped piece of the bone out of her foot to straighten it. For the 1st week - no weight on it at all. The second week she could put weight on it but not all her weight. She had to use a walker in order to keep the weight off. 3rd week she could walk on it and went in to get the other foot done. She was out of work a total of 5 weeks. She was feeling well at 5 weeks and has had no lingering problems - her surgery was 9 years ago. Do not see an orthopedic surgeon - see a podiatrist as their surgical training is specific to the foot. As to your HMO - you'd have to ask them. At the time my mother's covered everything because she needed surgery - they are not considered "cosmetic" and should be covered.
