How much sleep is necessary?!

How much sleep is necessary?
I know that we need typically around 8 hours of sleep a day. However, I'm working a split hift temporarily--I sleep for 4 hours, go to work, come home and sleep for another 3 or 4 hours and then stay up and get things done until i go back to work and then go back to bed. So I'm getting about 7-8 hours a day but still feel exhausted. Is it because i'm still getting used to this schedule or is it because the sleep is interrupted?

two or three different things could be causing your exhaustion.
One is if you work overnight, your body is not producing the proper amount of dopamine (sp), an endorphine that the body produces overnight while sleeping. Also stress, anxiety, and other factors could also be creating a tired feeling.
