Certain things over the past year have happend that I ended up going to the doct!

Question:

Certain things over the past year have happend that I ended up going to the doctor and getting taking?

Xanax. I hardly ever take them, just as needed, which is about 2 pills a week or less, whether I am stressing about my kids, family members or finances. It just seems to take the edge off. I have only gotten 2 bottles of 30 pills. The last bottle in February I had to go into the doctors office and wait for 2 hours in the waiting room, to ask for the refill, which he gave me with no problem because it had been a few months that the other 30 pills lasted. I just tried to call and get another refill because the one from February has 3 pills left and his nurse called back saying that I have to go in because Xanax is highly addictive. I tried explaining to her I have had this since February and I'm not taking them every day and she said I still have to go in. Why is this? Why can't she just look and see I am not abusing this and talk to the doctor and call it in? Medical people...please explain this one to me.

Answers:

As a healthcare practioner, we will not write for Xanax in our office because of its potential for abuse. Your physician is evidently comfortable with patients on this medication but they will be watched closely. Nobody in our office gets refills of any medication if they have not been seen in the last six months. I'm sure you are not abusing it. But with this drug, you're going to have to be seen.
