So what does addiction on nicotine really feels like?

I would never use them my self, but I'm wondering why is it so addictive? is it like alcohol or like nacortic that give you the high? I asked my husband who smoked for 10 years, he said it doesn't have a high? I don't get it, if it doesn't have a high affect why is it so addictive, I would like smokers to respond to this question please

someone i know said that the only way he could describe the feeling of wanting a cigarette is like the feeling you get when you are STARVING STARVING STARVING and you cant get any food. like a big hole in your stomach.
