Too much Tylenol/Motrin? Stomach pains?!

Question: Too much Tylenol/Motrin? Stomach pains?
Hey, So I'm 15 and weigh approx 130 pounds and am a 5'9" male.

Yesterday night, my nose started getting congested and all....

Today morning, it was really painful, so I took a Tylenol Extra Strength: 500 mg of acetaminophen and 1 vitamin C supplement.

I come back home @ about 4:30 and take another one, because the pain started building up again, this time, my throat felt really narrow.

I was waiting for a pc task (then fell asleep on my bed) for another 2 hrs (8 - 10:20 and I felt as if someone had chocked me as I woke up because i woke up spontaneously after not being able to breathe for a second)

At 2:20 AM I took a Motrin Super Strength (400mg of Ibuprofen)

My headache suddenly just went away, and my nose opened up a tad, my throat felt a little less painful.

However, I tried sleeping, but my stomach felt upset. (I was worried that I may have accidentally O.D)

I searched around, read some labels, they say don't go over 4grams of either, but because I used Tylenol, and now Motrin, am I creating some kind of side effect?

I just want assurance as to whether or not I have O.D on Motrin or Tylenol

Thanks!

Answers:

You didn't take too much of either medication and even though the Ibuprofen is nearing the expiration date, it remains fine to take.
Ibuprofen can be hard on the stomach whether or not taken with food. The fact that you woke up at 2:20, took it, then returned to bed and developed stomach pain is not surprising. Just remember to eat something before taking it in the future.
Many people use a combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen to combat pain because they work on different pain receptors. They cannot be taken at the same time; they must be taken in specific dosages and spread over specific time periods. Ask your doctor for information on Piggybacking these medications.

There is no averse interaction between the two.

You could potentially be allergic to either , Me i'm allergic to ibuprofen and aspirin which manifests itself in an upset stomach and hives.

As a rule , though , take those meds together with some food , even if it's only yoghurt , it will help prevent an upset stomach.

Ibuprofen is known to cause stomach upset, so stick with just the Tylenol and see if that helps. Also, make sure you are not taking your vitamin supplements with juice.

I find it amusing how people never bother reading dosage instructions on pill boxes, but always wait until they've swallowed half the packet before coming onto the internet to ask randoms if they've had too much.
