Chiggers? Or something else?!
Question:
Chiggers? Or something else?
Chiggers supposedly like to be on the thinner areas of your skin. My husband has little red oozing bites that started out around his ankles and wrists but now the bites are going up his arms and legs. Does anyone know what these are and how to get rid of them? He works in landscaping so he is outside a lot. We live in Texas.
Answers:
Those definitely sound like chiggers, all right. Poison ivy/sumac should not spread - it's not a virus or a bacteria, and unless you spread the urushiol (the oil containing the offending chemical) around on your skin, it's not going to move; chiggers, on the other hand, are very tiny mites, barely visible to the naked eye, and totally capable of moving. To keep them away, get sulphur at your pharmacy, and dust it around your ankles when you're going to be outside.
To deal with the itchy spots where they've already bitten, get clear nail polish to coat them. Works like a charm :-)
