86 year old lady's fingers went stiff for a while. why?!

Question:

86 year old lady's fingers went stiff for a while. why?

this 86 year old lady was cutting up vegetables on the cutting board. Hasnt really been diagnosed with arthritis or anything of the sort. Well about an hour after she was done her inde and middle fingers moved apart and went stiff all of a sudden and no matter what she did they wouldn't go back to thei normal position or unstiffen. She tried running them under warm water for a while and after a while they relaxed and unstiffened. Does anyone know why this happened, what this is or what can be done to prevent it? I know she's very old but you have to admit this is strange. At least I have never heard of it.

Answers:
