I'm a 21 year old student and right now i'm in the middle of exam weeks. I have a throbbing backpain at my lower back. its probably due to sitting for long hours. I've tried voltaren gel but it didnt work. how am i supposed to ease the throbbing? what posture should I try when sitting or sleeping? I have a 3 hour examination next week and I dont want to be bothered by the pain when I'm doing exams...Help pleaseee....

Answers:

Well, until exams are over there are several things that you can try. While at home you can try alternating ice packs and heat 15 min each on your lower back. Also lay flat on your back with pillows under knees (on the floor is best) and just relax for 30 min., no moving!! Aleve Liquid Gel capsules are great for minor back pain and the naproxin that they contain is usually what a doctor would prescribe for minor/mild back pain.
While you are at class, exams, library, etc. I would suggest that you buy something called Therma Care Heat Wrap, you can find them almost anywhere, They come in different sizes and wrap around you comfortably and provide a mild heat to relax your back muscles for extended periods. There are 2 per box and they are about $6. But worth it. I am a chronic back pain patient and I use them alot if I am away from home.
You could also bring a pillow with you to place between yourself and the back of your chair for a little bit of support.
After exams you should see a doc, just to be sure that your problem is just back strain from long hours. I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease when I was 23yrs old, so you can start having problems much younger than you would think. It's much easier if you know earlier, it will save alot of discomfort when your older.
Good Luck on Exams!!!
