Question:

I have a sharp pain on my left side in my stomach region, any ideas?

Answers:

How about fever? any other symptoms? What sort of duration? Does anything relieve it? (Tums, Pepto?) How would you rate it on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being no pain at all, 10 being "worst pain imaginable"? Any underlying medical conditions? Do you take any medications? Any new medications lately? Nausea? Vomiting? Ever had anything like this before? What have you eaten in the past 2 days? When was your last BM?

9 times out of 10 GI pain is related to the passage of food, or gas, and is eventually relieved by a bowel movement.

Of course, even a physician reading this would say go have it checked out. I feel differently because I know the reason you're asking on here is not that you expect anyone to cure you, but that you're avoiding going to a dr.
I would too! and I'm a nurse.

99 times out of a hundred (at least in the U.S.) they'll either:
A.) palpate your stomach, ask a bunch of questions, and give you something to encourage a BM, because it's "unspecified GI discomfort" or
B.) put you through a battery of tests, possibly including upper/lower GI, ultrasound, etc. and call it "GI discomfort of unknown origin."

Good luck!
