Breathed in Hydrochloric Acid?!

Question:

Breathed in Hydrochloric Acid?

I was working under the fume hood today and had put a couple of mL of HCL in a beaker. My coworker and I had to move the beaker outside the hood so that we could move it somewhere else. As soon as we did, I took in 1 breath of HCL. I knew it wasn't good, as I could tell it was acidic. I got away as quick as I could. Anyway, this happened about 5 hours ago, and my throat is a little scratchy. Just wondering if anybody had any suggestions. I have not gone to the doctor or anything since it was only 1 breath. I also figure that I would be in much worse condition since it happened 5 hours ago.

Answers:

My husband has had this happen before..one breath should not do much..your throat will probably be scratchy for a day or two....but if get worse or you start to feel sick...you might want to see a doctor and get checked out...HCL is nasty stuff...

If you are still worried but don't want to go to a doctor you could call a poison control hotline and explain to them what has happened...I had to call them once over a cleaning agent..they were very helpful ....
