Can he recover fully?!

Question:

Can he recover fully?

My husband had a compression fracture of his L-2 vertebrae, no damage to the disk above or below, 25% compression of the vertebrae. He was in the hospital for a week, no surgery, at home now, bed rest and pain meds for the time being. Does he have a chance of making a full recovery? Any one who has gone through this please let me know a little about your experience. He was an active and hardworking man, will he be able to get back to that? I either need a little hope to hang on to or to face the truth and get on with things as they will be from now on.

Thank you ghillie, I have been doing some research and it will be a long process. Anyone having a hobby that could get you hurt, invest in long term disability insurance if it is available where you work-it will make things like this a little easier to get through. There is a procedure where they can inject cement into the vertebrae, but it is not an option they want to use because of my husbands age. Once again, thank you!!

Answers:

He has a chance of a full recovery, just it is not the greatest of chances. He is more likely to devolp arthritis or just lower back pain though. I would get him to a physical therapist to work with him and decrease his chances of pain.
