What's the deal with all these prescription drugs on the street?!

Question:

What's the deal with all these prescription drugs on the street?

can someone please sort out my confusion as to what these all are, what do they do, and what are they also known as.
my friends talk about Vicoden, Percesets, OC or Oxycodone, or is that Oxycontin, Valium, Qualudes,, what else,,,I guess that's all i can remember.

Answers:

Vicodin = hydrocone
Percocet, OC, Oxycontin = oxycodone
Valium = diazepam
Quaalude = methaqualone

Hydrocodone and oxycodone are opiate pain killers. Valium is a CNS depressant, and is a tranquilizer, and is prescribed for anxiety, seizures, muscle spasms, sedation. Methaqualone is a sedative drug which is similar in effect to barbiturates, a general CNS depressant. It is used to treat insomnia, and as a sedative and muscle relaxant.

Why are they on the street? Some people sell a portion of their prescription to recover the cost of their doctor visit and pharmacy expenses, which they may not could afford otherwise.
