What is wrong with my right ring finger?!

Question:

What is wrong with my right ring finger?

My ring finger on my right hand stiffens up real bad in the mourning. Like i will rise all my fingers up and my ring finger will still be bent. Theres no pain or anything. If i keep folding my ring finger back and forth it will loosen up but i can still feel like there is something holding me back from bending it back up and down 100% properly. What is wrong with my finger?

Answers:

You have trigger finger, it's a condition where the joint is inflamed and the tendon in the finger gets caught in the inflamed part and gets stuck for a moment, before it releases (which is why it's named 'trigger', after the snapping sensation you get when it releases). I've had it twice now, so I know what I'm talking about. In most cases it's caused by a repetitive activity that causes a strain and inflamation. In my case I play a lot of guitar and that's what caused it. It was quite painful by the time I went to the doctor and I was willing to do almost anything to get it fixed. The shots hurt a lot, but I got cortisone injected into the joint (ask your doctor), and it cleared it up in about 3 days. The second time, I had the cortisone shots but they didn't help and I had to have surgery. BTW, even though you don't have pain now, it will likely get worse, and won't go away on its own. If you do have to get surgery, it's a very simple 10 minute operation under local anaesthetic, and relatively pain free. The incision is at the joint on the palm side of your hand. Recovery time afterwards is about a month before your hand feels 100% normal again. In my case I went right back to work the next day, but my typing was a bit slow for a few days.

Hope that helps! Here's some more info you about it:
