So what sould i do?!

So what sould i do?

I sprained my ankle while i was running in the rain to get inside. I tripped over the staires and now my ankle is swollen and it hurt alot to move and i can limp around but it hurts REALLY bad. i have an ace bandage and crutches sould i use them and ice and if so for how long. i know it is just sprained because if it was broken i would not have been able to limp inside so what do you think sould i use ice & bandage & crutches and for how long.

i went to the doctor and he took an x-ray of my ankle and he said it is not broken but he put a cast on it and told me to use my crutches? how logs sound the cast be on? and how come if is just a sprain then why did he put a cast on?


Answers:

Ouch...sprains hurt worse that breaks, so I sympathize with the pain. I've sprained my ankles more times than I care to remember. What I do is 20 minutes of heat (warm bath water) and then 20 minutes of ice. Wrap it up tight with the ace bandage (but not too tight, it'll cut of blood supply to your toes...not a good thing) Use crutches until you can put weight on it again...but you only really need to ice and heat right after the sprain happens, later on, it won't make a difference.
