Answers:

Symptoms of a fracture can range from immobility, bruising and swelling, stiffness, and the obvious pain. Some fractures are obvious, while others can take longer for the patient to seek medical attention for.
A "buckle fracture" happens in children and young adults whose bones are still composed mostly of cartilage. When the bone is put under enough pressure that it would break in an adult, the bone "smooshes" instead of cracking. It is similar to taking a long piece of clay and pushing the two ends together.
As far as stabilizing a buckle fracture (or any type of fracture), it depends on what the x-rays and examination shows. For a broken wrist or forearm, even in a child, it is more common to have a hard cast placed.

Best of luck!
