Can a dark purple bruise be a sign of an internal injury/bleeding?
My Husband was hit in the torso, just above his hip bone, while sparing during a martial arts class. He now has a large, rectangular, dark purple bruise there. My mom had seen an episode of law and Order where a man was hit in that general area, ignored the bruise, and died from internal bleeding. So my question is this: Could a dark purple bruise be a sign of an internal injury or internal bleeding? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

a bruise can also just be a place where someone got hit when he should have blocked. if your husband's abdominal area becomes distended, or he starts getting odd cramps, or starts developing a fever, or becomes nauseated, or starts passing blood, then you should be worried. until then tell him to watch those kicks.
