How do I treat my ankle?!

Question: How do I treat my ankle?
I sprained my ankle three weeks ago. Its not swollen anymore but it still hurts. I already started walking although I limp. It slightly hurts. What hurts the most is the bones on the side and the bottom part of the foot. How do I treat it now? I keep massaging it and putting it on warm water. Do you think it will take longer to cure? Do I keep walking on it? Should I wear my casket again? I have not been able to go to the doctor since I live on the second floor I don't want to risk going down the stairs again. What do I do? I want to get better, and be able to go work, walk and do the usual things that I used to do. Please give me some good tips. I already google many things but its the same answers over and over. Thank you in advance.

Answers:

Remember to treat your injury with ice when you first hurt it. You then treat it with heat after two days of ice.

1. Having said that, you muct elevate your ankle as much as possible. That includes when you sleep, too. Place pillows to elevate from the knee all the way to the foot (do not place pillows ONLY on the foot. You must include your knee too).
2. Do NOT massage. You may hurt it even more.
3. Treat it wiith a warm heating pad (place a towel between the heating pad and your skin)
4. Bandage or use the casket so long as its not tight (you don't want to kill the circulation)
5. Exercise it twice a day using a towel. Place the towel at the center of your foot and pull towards yourself.
6. Another exercise: stand behind a chair and tip toe while holding the back of the chair.
Do it five time to start...build it to 10 slowly
7. Take an over-the-counter muscle pain pill before you exercise.
8. Another exercise: Walk on sand.
9. ELEVATE...ELEVATE...ELEVATE

Hope this helps
