Is there any way to reduce thicknes of a scab?!

Question:

Is there any way to reduce thicknes of a scab?

I have an infected cut on my leg, and the scab that formed over is too thick and won't allow any peroxide or alcohol to get in the infection. Is there any way to reduce thickness without ripping it off or shaving it with a razor or scalpel? I really need some protection left on it, so I don't want to rip it off or anything. :P I'm trying to avoid pain.

Well, the thing is, I can't really see a doctor without getting readmitted into a rehab hospital, because it's from a tattoo that I'm sure they would say is self mutilation. It's not a traditional tattoo. So I've been avoiding the whole doctor subject. Plus, they'll just give me Levaquin or something...

Answers:

To reduce the size of the scab use a wash cloth and soak it with water. The water will soften the scab. Do not attempt to pull off the scab.
