Orange scabbed mosquito bite?!

Question:

Orange scabbed mosquito bite?

Last night, I had a mosquito bite that itched so bad that I had to scratch it insanely. Then this morning, I scratched and scratched and looked down and noticed an odd scab. It was like an orange booger. What is that? Does it have to do with mosquito poison reacting to blood?

Answers:

it was probably just serem (blood byproduct that can have an orange tinge to it).

but scratchy obsessively can lead to infection and irritation to the bite.

wash the bite well with warm water and mild soap. if a scab hasn't formed yet then apply a thin layer of neosporin and place a bandaid over it.

if there is already a scab in place-then wash it well and use benadryl cream or hydrocortisone cream to help relieve the itching

watch for signs of infection

-increased redness or swelling to bite area
-bite is painful, tender,or hot to touch
-the bite begins to drain liquid of green or yellowish-brown color
-you begin to run a fever of 100.5 or higher

if you have any of these symptoms-make an appt to see your dr for antibiotics.
