Question:
Partner is complaing of painful joints?
he is usually fit and well and active for his age
but is complaing of painful shoulders and arms and has started to take pain killers ( something he rarely does)
any ideas

If the pain is so bad that he has started to take painkillers on a regular basis I would make an appointment with the doctor as soon as possible, it could be arthritis. Check out this link to see if the symptoms match up:
