Upper stomach pain?!

Question:

Upper stomach pain?

Yesterday i got a really bad burning pain in my upper stomach, right through to my back. It made me alittle sweaty and nauseous from the pain but i didn't feel ill or sick at all. I called NHS Direct who got me to call my Out Of Hrs and they told me to take cocodamol and brufen to ease the pain and go see my doctor today. It eased thepain but it started again this morning and is back now with a vengeance. I'm seeing my doctor this evening. What could this be? NHS Direct said it could be an ulcer. I have been under a lot of stress but I thought ulcer pain crept up on you over a period of time, not all of a sudden. If anyone out there recognises these symptoms I would appreciate your advice. thank you in advance x

It's not anxiety, but thank you for your comment. The pain feels similar to labour pains, really burning and intense. It's under my ribs, in the upper part of the stomach area but it's not my actual stomach. It hurts right through to my back in the exact same spot, like as if a hot poker is going through that part of my body.

Could you please tell me what GERD is? Thanx

Answers:

either a peptic ulcer or perhaps your gall bladder!! an upper gi exam for the ulcer or an ultrasound for the gall bladder will help to diagnose the problem. in the mean time, a soft, low fat diet will help the symptoms. and stay away from things like ibprofen/asprin in case its an ulcer, it can cause them to bleed. good luck and i hope all is well.
